Webinar Gut-brain axis

When a decision “hits us in the stomach” or we feel butterflies in our stomach from excitement, it becomes clear that there is a close connection between our digestive tract and our head.

The fascinating communication network between the gut and brain, which has a significant impact on our health and well-being, is explored in more detail in a separate free webinar, Gut-Brain Axis:

Gut-brain axis: Between gut feeling and head cinema – how to influence your inner communication

Date: July 03, 2025
Time: 6 p.m. (CET)
Duration: 1 hour plus questions and answers

Agenda

Why the gut and head are connected – the mind isn’t everything:

Why are “butterflies in the stomach” not just imaginary, but biologically real? What is the gut-brain axis anyway?

How do the gut and brain communicate? – The language of the gut-brain axis:

How can the gut and brain talk to each other? How does it work?

Mood, stress and illness – this is how the gut influences your life:

What specific effects does the gut-brain axis have on our health and our lives?

Using the gut-brain axis to your advantage – tips for everyday life:

How can you use this knowledge to improve your life? What can you practically integrate into your everyday life?

Fascinating network

The approximately 38 trillion microorganisms that make up our gut microbiome are in direct contact with our brain via nerve connections, hormones and immune messengers and are in constant communication: the so-called gut-brain axis. The digestive tract contains the enteric nervous system, which comprises 200-600 million neurons – significantly more than the spinal cord, but fewer than the brain. It not only controls digestion, but is also in contact with the brain via the vagus nerve.

Close communication between the gut and brain

The microorganisms can have a direct influence on the enteric nervous system and thus influence the brain. Surprisingly, 90% of vagus nerve signals travel from the gut to the brain and not vice versa. In short, the gut is constantly talking to our brain. This explains why our intuition (the proverbial gut feeling) often has a physical basis. For example, the gut can warn us through discomfort when something is wrong, even if the mind does not yet see any cause for concern.

The gut influences your life

The psyche and digestion are inextricably linked. Everyone knows how anxiety and tension can literally hit your stomach, while gastrointestinal problems can depress your mood. A healthy and diverse gut microbiome strengthens your stress regulation system and reduces your susceptibility to stress. Conversely, a disturbed microbiome leads to mood swings and a greatly reduced ability to cope with psychological stress. Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s may also have their origin in the gut.

Using the gut-brain axis to your advantage

Knowledge of how the gut-brain axis works enables us to influence this communication in a targeted way and use it to our advantage. Many current scientific findings provide practical tips for everyday life on how we can positively influence the interaction between our gut and brain. Our lifestyle therefore has a direct influence on our gut and therefore also on our brain. We can not only improve our well-being, but probably also avoid possible illnesses.
